I hope you all had a safe New year.
It's freezing here in the US. Our temps here today are minus -20 with wind. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.. I love Winter but dislike the cold

I've been busy the last month, I created a new account here on DA. It will be for my manips. Typically in the Winter months when it's cold like this, I shoot a lot of still life and macros. This year, I have been experimenting and decided to have fun with manipulations and created a new account.

If you want to see what I am up to there, give me a watch. I will keep all my photography here and use it strictly for manips.

Second, I created an account on Model Mayhem!! I am very excited to start my adventure with them and have made several contacts which I hope to see come to fruition soon.
I don't have a studio but a friend from Red bubble said we could work something out.. ha ha

I have been more active at Red bubble this last month then I have since I started my account. I have made several friends there and have met one person in real life. My friend Sarah, and I have a handful of people that want to start a photography club including a few people from my high school, one is a pro. I am so excited about these new adventures !!!

This is not your typical holiday/Christmas journal.

I recently had the pleasure of speaking with an intelligent but 'young" man. He is one of my new watchers /friends here on DA and we happened on the subject of "instant gratification" He was speaking about becoming popular on DA and means to instant gratification, but I would love to delve into this subject a little deeper. This is something that makes me absolutely bonkers.

I believe it is one of the main reasons our economy is in the garbage.
Too many people thinking that they "NEED" something now instead of savoring the wait to "earn" something e.g. credit, e.g. homes e.g. fancy cars etc etc

I am old.. ok older but my roots are from a blue collar family. When we received an allowance or earned money for mowing the neighbor's yard, we saved it. There was no running to the nearest electronics store to buy whatever the big bad retailer told me I needed.

Today, people( old and young) have no respect for the dollar. If you love it, respect it, you wouldn't abuse it if you did ( my feelings)

This trickles to other areas, relationships, occupations, environment, the list could go on and on. It's the reason we have "fast food" that has made us fat and clogged our arteries. It's the reason we have "speed dating" because we have no time to get to know people to see if we are compatible..

I would love to see things simplified again. S-L-O-W it down..
Today my oldest came home with the most lovely Christmas card that he made with his two little hands. It was beautiful and I couldn't ask for anything more

Would love to hear your feelings on this subject.. Do you believe it is the root of most evil? Or am I hopping off my DA peace train again

Have I mentioned I love snow? We're supposed to get more tonight( notice I did not use inches this time )
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
Spent the weekend with 10, yes, 10 boys at a Waterpark celebrating my oldest's 11th birthday.. I loved to see all their smiling faces but felt a little melancholy about Noah growing up right before my eyes. Where does the time go?

Yeppers it's here. Our first official big snow storm. We're supposed to receive 6-8 inches tonight and then more tomorrow !! Woo hoo..look for some upcoming snow piccies from me.

A small update on Tom. They believe he has had a stroke this happened the night after I visited. I was wished I could have stayed but realize this was a very personal time for their family. They have started to ween him off all the meds, trying to get him out of the medical coma because they fear this may be why he has had the stroke or that the meds are mimicking a stroke. Please continue to send positive thoughts, more so now. This is it, this is the point where he will have to turn around or possible may never be Tom again.


I recently received a thought provoking note from a friend that I hold in the highest regard. Seems people are forgetting how to do the right thing.. to use a little common sense.. He shared this little giggle with me but I want you to think about it.

An obituary printed in the London Times - Interesting and sadly rather true.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

- Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
- Why the early bird gets the worm;
- Life isn't always fair;
- and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge). His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a class mate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home
and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement. Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.
